Shri AR Damodaran was the founder President of the Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers Association He founded the same in 1978. Prior to this he had founded the South Arcot Zonal Petroleum Dealers Association which was for dealers situated in South Arcot District currently Cuddalore & Villupuram District.

 

He had always found that the dealers were unable to face pressure from Governmental Authorities during this period and hence representations were needed to overcome various Taxation and Labour Laws. This was period of nationalization of the oil marketing companies and for various control orders to be enacted to control the trade. The TNPDA was formed for all petroleum dealers ie., Petrol, Diesel and Kerosine Wholesalers. Kerosine was one of the main products for which countless representations were made to the State Government, this was because it was an essential commodity and had countless forms and procedures prescribed for its procurement and distribution.

 

He was President of the Federation of All India Petroleum Traders for over 15 years and was a member of various committees. The major battles here was with regard to margin fixation, the abolition of the slab system and removal of control orders especially for Diesel The introduction of Density as a measure to check the quality.

 

He was a Member of the Legislative Council for 13 years. During this period he ensured that various laws enacted had a mild impact on our trade. During the introduction of entry tas he was able to avoid the same for petroleum products.
